Spain: Industrial production deteriorates in February

In February, industrial production rose 2.2% over the same month last year in working-day adjusted terms, which was below the revised 3.4% increase tallied in January (previously reported: +3.5% year-on-year). The print reflected deceleration in intermediate goods production as well as deterioration in energy output. Despite February’s slowdown, annual average variation of industrial production was stable at January’s 3.6%.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in February decreased 0.2% in working-day adjusted terms. The reading was down from January’s 0.1% drop and marked the lowest level in six months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production expanding 3.1% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees industrial output growth at 2.8%.
