Spain: Housing permits increase notably in January
March 30, 2017
In January, the Spanish Board of Architects (Colegio de Arquitectos Técnicos) granted 6,234 new construction permits, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works (Ministerio de Fomento). The figure was well above the 4,898 permits approved in December and marked the best reading in six months. On an annual basis, permits jumped 26.1% in January, which contrasted the 3.5% decrease recorded in the previous month.
The moving three-month sum of permits totaled a six-month high of 17,077 in January, which represented a 15.7% increase from the same period of the previous year. The figure followed December’s 19.9% expansion. Nevertheless, the current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits that were granted during the July–September 2006 peak.
