Spain: Housing permits growth climbs in May
July 31, 2017
The Spanish Board of Architects (Colegio de Arquitectos Técnicos) granted 7,681 new construction permits in May, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works (Ministerio de Fomento). The figure was well above the 4,908 permits approved in April. On an annual basis, permits rose 7.9% in May, which was markedly above the 2.4% increase recorded in the previous month.
The moving three-month sum of permits totaled 19,773 in May, which represented a 9.2% increase from the same period last year. The figure followed April’s 11.8% expansion. Nevertheless, the current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits that were granted during the July–September 2006 peak.
