South Africa: Manufacturing expands in November

In November, manufacturing production increased 1.9% over the same month of the previous year, which contrasted the 2.7% decrease recorded in October. According to the Statistical Office, November’s reading came on the back of contracting output for food and beverages.

On a monthly basis, manufacturing output increased 0.3% in seasonally-adjusted terms in November, which contrasted the 1.9% decrease observed in the previous month. The trend pointed upward as annual average growth in industrial production edged up from 0.7% in October to 1.0% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecasts panelists expect manufacturing to expand 0.5% in 2017, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2018, the panel expects manufacturing to expand 1.2%.
