Slovenia: Inflation flat in August

In August, consumer prices did not change over the previous month. The figure was up from the 0.9% drop seen in July, which had marked the lowest figure in six months. In August, higher prices for garments offset lower prices for petroleum products.

Inflation was flat in August, which was down from the 0.2% observed in July and dropped to the lowest reading in three months. July’s reading had marked the second consecutive time that the annual change in consumer prices was positive, while prices had fallen between January 2015 and May 2016. Meanwhile, the annual variation in the HICP was minus 0.4% in August, inching up from July’s minus 0.5%. The annual average variation of HICP inflation increased slightly from July’s minus 0.7% to minus 0.6% in August.

The Central Bank expects harmonized consumer prices to average minus 0.2% in 2016 and to increase to 1.4% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect HICP inflation to be flat in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s forecast. In 2017, the panel expects HICP inflation to accelerate to 1.3%.
