Slovenia: Consumer prices fall further in March

Consumer prices increased 0.7% in March over the previous month, which was above the flat growth recorded in February. The monthly reading mainly reflected an increase in the prices of clothing and footwear as the post-holiday discount season drew to a close.

Consumer prices fell 0.9% in annual terms in March, a more severe decrease than the 0.7% recorded in February. Meanwhile, annual harmonized consumer prices fell 1.0% in March, following the 0.9% decrease observed in the previous month. Annual average HICP fell 0.8% in March, mirroring February’s figure.

The Central Bank expects HICP inflation to average 1.0% in 2016 and increase to 1.5% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect HICP inflation to average 0.2% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points over the previous month’s forecast. In 2017, the panel expects HICP inflation to accelerate to 1.3%.
