Slovenia: Industrial production slows markedly in August from July's three-year high

October 10, 2014

In August, industrial production expanded 4.5% over the same month last year, which followed the strong 9.2% increase recorded in July. July’s print had represented the fastest growth since December 2010. According to the statistical office, August’s deceleration mainly reflected a sharp decline in mining and quarrying as well as lower growth in electricity, gas and water supply and manufacturing output.

On a monthly basis, industrial output declined a seasonally-adjusted 2.3% in August, which contrasted the 2.3% increase recorded in the previous month. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose from 2.1% in July to 2.8% in August, which represented the highest level since December 2011.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 2.1% this year, which is up 0.1 percentage points over last month’s Consensus. For 2015, the panel sees industrial output growth accelerating to 2.4%.
