Slovenia: Industrial production hits over-four-year high in January

In January, industrial production expanded 8.9% over the same month last year, which marked the highest increase in over four years. The print came in well above the 0.3% increase tallied in December and continues the positive trend that began in mid-2013. According to the statistical office, January’s reading was mainly driven by a sharp 18.5% increase in mining and quarrying. Electricity, gas and steam supply also made a large contribution to the positive result with a 5.3% increase.

On a monthly basis, industrial output rose a seasonally-adjusted 4.0% in January, which contrasted the 0.2% increase recorded in the previous month and marked a six-year high. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose from 1.5% in December to 2.3% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 2.9% in 2015, which is unchanged over last month’s Consensus. For 2016, the panel sees industrial output growth coming in at 2.9%.
