September 10, 2014

In July, industrial production expanded 9.0% over the same month last year, which followed the 4.3% increase recorded in June and marked the fastest growth since December 2010. According to the statistical office, July’s acceleration mainly reflected much stronger growth in electricity, gas and water supply and, to a lesser extent, manufacturing output. Conversely, mining and quarrying dipped into the red in July.

On a monthly basis, industrial output expanded a seasonally-adjusted 2.3% in July, which followed the 1.3% increase recorded in the previous month. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose from 1.1% in June to 2.0% in July, which represented the highest level since December 2011.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 2.1% this year, which is up 0.1 percentage points over last month’s Consensus. For 2015, the panel sees industrial output growth accelerating to 2.4%.
