Slovenia Industry March 2017

Slovenia: Industrial output growth healthy in March

May 10, 2017

Industrial production expanded 9.8% from the same month a year earlier in March, coming in above February’s 7.6% expansion (previously reported: +7.5% year-on-year). With March’s reading, which was the highest in three months, the industrial sector looks to be comfortably back on track following a dismal, one-off reading in January (+2.1% yoy; previously reported: +1.7% yoy). According to the Statistical Office, March’s acceleration was driven by robust growth in manufacturing and a sharp upswing in mining and quarrying. Conversely, electricity, gas and water supply output contracted from a month earlier.

Industrial output rose by a seasonally-adjusted 1.4% month-on-month in March, a deceleration from February’s 3.3% expansion (previously reported: +3.6% mom). Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production edged up to 7.1% in March from 6.8% a month earlier.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 4.7% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees industrial output expanding 4.3%.
