Slovenia: Industrial output growth edges down in May but remains robust

July 10, 2017

In May, industrial production grew 7.4% from the same month of the previous year, coming in slightly below April’s 7.8% rise. According to data released by the Statistical Office, the fall was spurred by a slower pace of expansion in electricity, gas and steam supply, which more than offset a faster rate of expansion in manufacturing output. Meanwhile, the mining and quarrying sector recorded no changes in output growth from a month earlier.

Industrial output increased by a seasonally-adjusted 1.6% month-on-month in May, contrasting April’s 0.5% decline. Annual average growth in industrial production inched down to 7.7% in May from 7.8% in the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 6.0% in 2017, which is up 0.6 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees industrial output expanding 4.9%.
