Slovakia: Inflation rises further in February
March 11, 2011
In February, consumer prices added a meagre 0.3% over the previous month, which was well below the 1.9% increase recorded in January. Higher food prices and health costs were the primary drivers behind the monthly price rise, partially offset by falling prices of clothing and footwear. The increase in consumer prices saw annual headline inflation increase from 3.0% in January to 3.3% in February. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonised index of consumer prices) rose from 0.7% in December to 1.0% in January (the latest month for which data are available). The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 3.9% this year before moderating to 2.6% in 2012.
