October 13, 2011

In September, consumer prices increased 0.3% over the previous month, which was above the 0.1% rise tallied in August. The increase mainly reflected a 0.4% price increase in the housing category. Annual headline inflation increased from 4.0% in August to 4.3% in September, the fastest pace since December 2008. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) edged up from 2.9% in August to 3.2% in September. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 4.2% this year before moderating to 3.0% in 2012.
