Slovakia: Inflation moderates in April
May 14, 2013
In April, consumer prices remained unchanged over the previous month (March: +0.1% month-on-month). The monthly print mainly reflects how higher prices for clothing and footwear as well as for food and non-alcoholic beverages offset lower prices for housing as well as for transport.
Against this backdrop, annual headline inflation edged down from 1.9% in March to 1.7% in April. Meanwhile, annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) fell from 3.5% February to 3.3% in March, the latest month for which data are available.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect HICP inflation to average 2.4% this year, which is down 0.3 percentage points over the previous month's forecast. In 2014, the panel expects HICP inflation to inch up to 2.6%.
