Slovakia: Inflation inches down in June

In June, consumer prices were flat from the previous month, contrasting May’s 0.2% rise. According to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SOSR), lower prices for transport, and recreation and culture were the primary drivers of June’s ease in price pressures.

Inflation inched down from 1.1% in May to 1.0% in June. Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices was flat in monthly terms, down from May’s 0.3% increase. Harmonized inflation came in at 1.0% in June, a slight dip from the 1.1% in May. Annual average harmonized inflation was 0.3% which followed the 0.1% recorded in May.

The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) expects harmonized inflation to be 1.2% in 2017 and to increase to 1.9% in 2018. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect harmonized inflation to be 1.3% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects HICP inflation to rise to 1.9%.
