Slovakia: Inflation inches down in June

In June, consumer prices grew 0.1% over the previous month, falling from the 0.3% increase tallied in May and marking the lowest value in three months. June’s reading mainly reflected higher prices for clothing and footwear as well as for transport.

Inflation inched down from 0.3% in May to 0.2% in June. Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices grew 0.1% in monthly terms in June (May: +0.3% month-on-month). Annual harmonized consumer prices fell 0.1% in June, which matched the result tallied in the previous month.

The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) expects harmonized consumer prices to fall 0.1% on average in 2015, before rebounding to a 1.6% increase in 2016. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect HICP inflation to average 0.2% in 2015, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects HICP inflation to increase to 1.6%.
