Slovakia: Inflation continues to rise in November

In November, consumer prices declined 0.1% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.1% rise tallied in October. The reading mainly reflected lower prices for transport, as well as for food and non-alcoholic beverages and alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Conversely, clothing as well as housing, gas, electricity and water recorded higher prices than the previous month.

Inflation inched up from 0.2% in October to 0.3% in November, which marked the highest reading in nine months. Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices was flat in November, which mirrored October’s reading. Annual average HICP fell 0.1% in November (October: 0.0%).

The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) expects inflation to average 0.5% in 2015 and 1.8% in 2016. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect HICP inflation to average 1.1% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects HICP inflation to increase to 1.9%.
