Slovakia: Inflation accelerates further in March
April 13, 2011
In March, consumer prices added 0.4% over the previous month, which was a notch above the 0.3% increase observed in February. Higher prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as higher transport costs were the primary drivers behind the monthly price rise. Annual headline inflation stepped up from 3.3% in February to 3.6% in March, the highest pace since December 2008. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) rose from 1.3% in February to 1.6% in March. The Central Bank revised its forecasts in March 2011 and now expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 3.8% this year before moderating to 2.9% in 2012.
