Slovakia: Harmonized inflation comes in at highest level since May 2000 in October

Harmonized inflation surged to 14.5% in October, above September’s 13.6%. October's result marked the highest inflation rate since May 2000. The reading was driven by rising price pressures for clothing, housing and energy and food and non-alcoholic beverages. That said, price pressures for transport fell.

The trend pointed up, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 10.4% in October (September: 9.6%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 14.9% in October, from September’s 14.2%.

Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 1.30% in October over the previous month, accelerating from September's 0.94% increase.

FocusEconomics panelists project harmonized inflation to average 8.5% in 2023, which is up 0.8 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and 3.1% in 2024.
