Slovakia: Industrial production slows in January
March 8, 2011
In January, industrial output expanded 17.1% over the same month the previous year, decelerating over the 19.7% increase recorded in December. The result was driven by strong growth in the manufacturing sector and a pick-up in mining and quarrying, which was partially offset by a significant drop in public utilities. A month-on-month analysis suggests less buoyant growth than implied by annual figures, as industrial production added 0.9% over the same month the year before (December: +0.4% mom). The trend deteriorated slightly in January, with annual average growth falling to 18.7% from 18.9% registered in December.
