Slovakia: Industrial production growth decelerates in August

October 10, 2014

Industrial production grew 2.7% in August over the same month last year, which came in below the 4.3% expansion tallied in July (previously reported: +4.4% year-on-year) and represented the least gain since June 2013. According to the statistical office, August’s reading was mainly the result of increases in mining and quarrying, electricity, gas and air-conditioning, and manufacturing.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in August rose 0.3% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which represented an acceleration compared to July’s 0.1% expansion. The upward trend moderated slightly in August, with an annual average growth in industrial output inching down from 6.8% in July to 6.7% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 5.7% in 2014, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For next year, the panel sees industrial output expanding 6.1%, which is also down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
