Slovakia: Industrial output edges up in January

In January, industrial output expanded 7.0% over the same month last year, which was above the 0.9% increase observed in December. According to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SOSR), the reading was mostly affected by a 21.2% increase in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. On a monthly basis, industrial production expanded a seasonally adjusted 6.2% over the previous month. The print contrasted the 0.3% contraction tallied in December and represents the first increase after two consecutive monthly declines in output. Despite the January increase, however, annual average industrial production declined further from 7.0% in December to 6.1%.
