Slovakia: Growth in industrial production decelerates in December

February 11, 2016

Industrial production expanded 8.2% annually in December, following the revised 11.8% increase tallied in November (previously reported: +11.9% year-on-year). According to the statistical institute, December’s result reflected a deceleration in manufacturing output and a sharp decline in mining and quarrying. On the other hand, the fall in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply category was almost unchanged in December.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in December fell 0.5% in seasonally-adjusted terms. The print contrasted the 1.9% increase tallied in November. As a result of the acceleration observed in the last few months, annual average growth in industrial production rose from 5.5% in November to 5.9% in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 4.6% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees industrial output expanding 4.4%.
