Slovakia: Growth in industrial production decelerates in April

June 10, 2015

Industrial production increased 4.7% annually in April, marking a deceleration compared to the 10.9% growth tallied in March. March’s increase had marked the highest value since December 2013. According to the statistical institute, April’s result reflected a strong expansion in mining and quarrying as well as in electricity, gas and air-conditioning supply. Growth in manufacturing, however, decelerated in the same month.

On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 0.9% in seasonally-adjusted terms in April, which contrasted the 1.8% increase tallied in March. Despite April’s slowdown, annual average growth in industrial production increased from 3.5% in March to 3.6% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 4.8% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees industrial output expanding 5.3%.
