Slovakia: Growth in industrial production accelerates in June

Industrial production increased 6.4% annually in June, marking an acceleration compared to the 1.4% growth tallied in May. June’s print represented the strongest increase in three months. According to the statistical institute, June’s result reflected a strong expansion in manufacturing output and slightly faster growth in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. Conversely, mining and quarrying remained in the red in June.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in June rose 1.4% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which contrasted the 0.1% decrease tallied in May. Despite June’s acceleration, annual average growth in industrial production fell from 3.4% in May to 3.2% in June.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 5.1% in 2015, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees industrial output expanding 5.2%.
