Slovakia: Economy accelerates slightly in Q4

In the fourth quarter, GDP in Slovakia grew 3.1% from the same period of the previous year, according to preliminary data released by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SOSR) on 14 February. The print came in slightly above the 3.0% increase in Q3 and just overshot the 3.0% expansion that FocusEconomics analysts had expected last month.

Sequentially, the economy grew a seasonally-adjusted 0.8% in Q4, which followed the 0.7% rise in Q3. More detailed data will be released on 6 March.

The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) projects that GDP will grow 3.1% in 2017 and 4.2% in 2018. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP growth to reach 3.0% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel projects that economic growth will reach 3.3%.
