Serbia: Inflation stable in August

In August, consumer prices increased 0.9% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.1% decrease in July. According to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS), August’s print mainly reflected higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, recreation and culture.

Inflation was stable at July’s 1.2% in August. Moreover, annual average inflation was 1.2% in August, which mirrored the previous month’s figure.

Meanwhile, core inflation, which does not include more volatile categories such as energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, increased from 1.5% in July to a seven-month high of 1.8% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect that inflation will average 1.6% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees inflation at 2.9%.
