Serbia: Inflation climbs to an over three-year high in April

Consumer prices increased 0.8% from a month earlier in April and came in above March’s 0.2% rise. According to the Statistical Office, higher food and clothing prices drove the monthly increase while prices for housing, water, electricity and gas fell for another month.

Inflation rose to 4.0% in April from 3.6% a month earlier in what was the highest reading since September 2013. Annual average inflation edged up to 1.8% in April from 1.5% in March, which was the highest figure in more than a year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 2.9% in 2017, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees inflation rising to 3.0%.
