Serbia: Industrial production growth decelerates in February

April 3, 2017

In February, industrial production in Serbia expanded 1.7% from the same month a year earlier, coming in below the 2.8% increase recorded in January. Looking at the breakdown, both the mining and quarrying and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sub-categories continued to contract in February, dragging on the result. In addition, growth in the manufacturing sector lost steam.

A sequential comparison showed that industrial production expanded by a seasonally-adjusted 1.7% in February, contrasting January’s steep 6.7% decline. Annual average growth in industrial production fell from 4.4% in January to 3.3% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 4.8% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel sees industrial production growth at 5.0%.
