Russia Inflation April 2017

Russia: Inflation falls to lowest level in April in nearly five years

May 5, 2017

In April, consumer prices in Russia rose 0.3% from the previous month, above February’s 0.1% increase. According to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), the result was due to rising prices for food items and goods products.

Inflation fell from 4.3% in March to 4.1% in April, which was the lowest level since June 2012. A stabilization in the ruble has helped support easing price pressures and annual average inflation also declined from 6.2% to 5.9% in March.

Panelists see inflation ending 2017 at 4.2%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, participants expect inflation to also end the year at 4.2%.
