Russia: Industrial production rises in April

Industrial production in Russia surged in April after output rebounded to expansion in March. Industrial production rose 2.3% year-on-year in April, which marks a substantial improvement from March’s 0.8% expansion. This marks the highest result in 3 months. Looking at a month-on-month comparison, industrial production slowed from a seasonally adjusted revised 1.3% expansion in March (previously reported: +1.2% mom) to a 0.8% expansion in April.

April’s result reflected faster growth in the mining sector as well as higher output of electricity power, gas and steam and air conditioning.

The overall trend pointed up, with annual average growth in output rising to 1.2% in April from March’s 1.1%.

For this year, our panel of analysts expects industrial production to expand 1.9%, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects industrial production to accelerate and increase 2.5%.
