Russia: Consumer confidence reaches year-high in Q2

The consumer confidence index published by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) increased to minus 6.0% in the second quarter, which marked a significant improvement over the minus 11.0% registered in the first quarter. As a result, the index is now at the highest level since Q2 2013.

All the components of the index improved in the second quarter. Consumers were more optimistic regarding the future economic situation of the country. Their perceptions of the current situation in the economy also improved. Regarding households’ personal circumstances, they were more confident regarding both their current and future financial situations. Consumers’ were also more optimistic regarding the purchase of big ticket items and savings.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to grow 1.7% in 2014, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2015, panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.4%.
