Russia: Confidence among Russian consumers wanes somewhat in Q3

The consumer confidence index published by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) inched down from minus 6.0% in the second quarter to minus 7.0% in the third quarter.

According to Rosstat, all the components of the index fell in the third quarter. Consumers were less optimistic regarding the future economic situation of the country. Their perceptions of the current situation in the economy also deteriorated. Regarding households’ personal circumstances, they were slightly more upbeat regarding their current financial situation, although they were more pessimistic about their future financial conditions. Moreover, respondents to the third quarter survey did not change their assessments regarding the potential purchase of big-ticket items.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to grow 1.7% in 2014, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2015, panelists expect private consumption to expand 2.4%.
