Romania Inflation March 2017

Romania: Inflation stable in March

April 11, 2017

Consumer prices rose 0.1% from the previous month in March, contrasting February’s 0.1% contraction. March’s result reflected higher prices for services and food items, which offset a drop in non-food goods.

Inflation was stable in March at February’s 0.2%. Nonetheless, inflation remains well below the Central Bank’s target band of 1.5%-3.5%. The annual average variation in consumer prices edged up to minus 0.9% in March, from minus 1.1% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see consumer prices rising 1.6% on average in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect average inflation of 2.8%.
