Romania: Inflation slides in August

Consumer prices dropped a seasonally-adjusted 0.05% from the previous month in August, broadly stable from the flat result seen in July. August’s result marked the sharpest fall in prices since July 2019. The result was driven by a decline in prices for food goods. Meanwhile, prices for non-food goods and services rose at a softer pace compared to July.

Inflation came in at 2.7% in August, which followed July’s 2.8%. Accordingly, the trend pointed down mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.1% in August (July: 3.2%). Lastly, core consumer prices remained unchanged year-on-year in August, following July’s 0.1% decrease.
