Romania: Inflation reaches record low in June

July 10, 2014

In June, consumer prices fell 0.27% over the previous month, which was below the virtually flat reading observed in May. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INSSE), June’s result reflected lower prices for food and services.

Annual headline inflation fell from 0.9% in May to 0.7% in June, which marked the lowest rate on record. Inflation is still below the Central Bank’s tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0% around its target of 2.5%. Annual average inflation fell from 2.2% in May to a record low of 1.8% in June.

The Central Bank foresees inflation ending 2014 at 3.0%. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see inflation of 3.4% by the end of 2014, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panelists anticipate 3.2% inflation.
