Romania: Inflation on the rise in September

October 11, 2017

Consumer prices rose 0.5% in September over the previous month, contrasting the 0.2% drop registered in August. The rise in consumer prices was partly due to higher prices for food as well as clothing and footwear.

Inflation came in at 1.8% in September, up from 1.2% in August, and within the Central Bank’s target range of 1.5%–3.5%. It had been below the target range since September 2014. Annual average inflation rose from 0.2% in August to 0.4%, the highest level in over two years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see inflation averaging 3.0% in 2018, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect average inflation of 3.1%.
