Romania: Inflation moderates in August
September 10, 2014
In August, consumer prices fell 0.31% over the previous month, which was below the 0.05% fall observed in July. The figure marked the fastest decrease since September 2013. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INSSE), August’s result reflected lower prices for food and non-food goods, while services recorded higher prices compared to the previous month.
Annual headline inflation fell from 1.0% in July to 0.8% in August. Inflation is still below the Central Bank’s tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0% around its target of 2.5%. Annual average inflation fell from 1.5% in July to a record low of 1.2% in August.
