Romania: Inflation inches down in April

May 12, 2015

In April, consumer prices rose 0.1% over the previous month, which came in below the 0.4% increase observed in March. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INSSE), April’s result reflected higher prices for the food goods and the services categories of the index, while the non-food goods category recorded lower prices.

Headline inflation inched down from 0.8% in March to 0.7% in April. As a result, inflation dropped a bit further below the Central Bank’s tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0% around its target of 2.5% target. Annual average inflation remained at March’s 0.9% in April.

Consensus Forecast panelists see inflation at 1.2% at the end of 2015, which is down 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists forecast inflation of 2.0%.
