Romania Inflation July 2017

Romania: Inflation accelerates in July

August 11, 2017

In July, consumer prices edged up 0.3% compared to the previous month, up from June’s flat print. July’s result was driven by a rise in non-food prices and services, which offset a drop in food prices.

Inflation in July came in at 1.4%, up from 0.9% in June but still below the target range of 1.5%–3.5% set by the Central Bank. Inflation has been below the target range since September 2014. Annual average inflation edged up from June’s minus 0.1% to plus 0.1% in July, the highest level since August 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see consumer prices rising 1.0% on average in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect average inflation of 2.8%.
