Romania: Inflation accelerates in February

Consumer prices fell 0.1% from the previous month in February, improving from January’s 0.2% drop. February’s drop reflects a decrease in prices for services, which offset price rises in food and non-food items.

Inflation edged up to 0.2% in February (January: +0.1% year-on-year).. Nonetheless, inflation remains well below the Central Bank’s target band of 1.5%-3.5%. The annual average variation in consumer prices edged up to minus 1.1%, from minus 1.4% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see consumer prices rising 1.6% on average in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect average inflation of 2.8%.
