Romania: Inflation accelerates in April

Consumer prices rose 0.3% from the previous month in April, up from March’s 0.2% increase. April’s result reflected higher prices for all three main categories, namely services, food and non-food items.

Inflation rose to 0.6% in April, up from 0.2% in March. Nonetheless, inflation remains well below the Central Bank’s target band of 1.5%-3.5%. The annual average variation in consumer prices edged up to minus 0.5% in April, from minus 0.9% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see consumer prices rising 1.6% on average in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect average inflation of 2.8%.
