Romania: Industrial production ticks up in November

January 13, 2016

Industrial output rose 1.8% in November over the same month of the previous year, marking an acceleration over October’s small 0.1% rise. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the pickup mainly reflected that manufacturing continued to expand in November and that mining and quarrying contracted less. Conversely, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning deteriorated.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production fell 0.15% in November, which came in above the 0.30 decrease tallied in the previous month. Annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 2.6% in October to 2.7% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 4.3% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. The panel estimates that industrial output will increase 4.5% in 2017.
