Romania: Industrial production soars in May

Industrial output swung to a 17.2% expansion in May from the same month last year, from April’s 0.6% contraction. According to the National Institute of Statistics, an acceleration in both the manufacturing and the mining and manufacturing sectors drove the expansion.



On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production accelerated to 3.5% in May, up from 0.6% in April. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose 4.5% in May, up from April’s 3.2%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 3.9% in 2017, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s estimate. The panel predicts that industrial output will increase 3.8% in 2018.
