Romania: Industrial production rebounds in November

Industrial output rose 5.3% in November from the same month of the previous year, contrasting October’s 0.3% contraction. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector swung back to growth, albeit only marginally, while the manufacturing sector continued to grow but at a slower pace. The mining and quarrying sector contracted less severely compared to October but remained deep in contractionary territory.

On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production increased 0.7% in November, contrasting October’s 0.8% contraction. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production inched up to 1.8% in November, up from 1.6% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 3.2% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel predicts that industrial output will increase 3.9% in 2018.
