Romania: Industrial production picks up in July

September 11, 2015

Industrial output rose 3.8% in July over the same month last year, which exceeded June’s 3.1% rise. According to the National Institute of Statistics, July’s reading mainly resulted from a pickup in manufacturing and robust growth in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply category. Conversely, mining and quarrying recorded a sizable contraction.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production rose 0.6% in July, which came in below the 0.8% expansion tallied in the previous month. Annual average growth in industrial production fell from 2.8% in June to 2.6% in July.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 4.2% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. The panel estimates that industrial output will increase 4.8% in 2016.
