Romania: Industrial production moderates in June but remains strong

Industrial output moderated to a still-vigorous 8.9% annual expansion in June, which was down from 17.3% in May. According to the Statistical Institute, growth slowed in the manufacturing and mining sectors, while the electricity and gas sector underwent a small acceleration.

On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production contracted 1.4% in June, contrasting the 3.3% expansion registered in May. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose 5.2% in June, up from May’s 4.5%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 4.7% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. The panel predicts that industrial output will increase 4.0% in 2018.
