Romania: Industrial production growth accelerates in March

May 12, 2015

Industrial output increased 4.4% in March over the same month last year, which came in above February’s 3.7% rise and marked the highest reading in six months. According to the National Institute of Statistics, March’s acceleration resulted from the fact that mining and quarrying as well as electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply contracted at a softer pace than in February. Meanwhile, manufacturing growth slowed in March.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production grew 0.3% in March, which was up from the 0.2% rise tallied in the previous month. However, annual average growth in industrial production decreased from 5.0% in February to 4.4% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 5.0% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel estimates that industrial output will increase 5.5% in 2016.
