Romania: Industrial production accelerates in January

Industrial output rose 5.8% in January from the same month last year, up from December’s 3.6% increase. According to the National Institute of Statistics, production in the manufacturing sector accelerated, while the contraction in mining and quarrying softened and growth in the electricity gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector slowed.

On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production fell 0.5% in January, contrasting December’s 1.6% expansion. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production jumped to 2.4% in January (December: +1.8%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 3.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel predicts that industrial output will increase 3.8% in 2018.
