Romania: Industrial production accelerates in February

Industrial output rose 5.0% in February from the same month last year, down from January’s 6.0% increase. According to the National Institute of Statistics, production in the manufacturing sector slowed, while the mining and quarrying sector returned to growth and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector accelerated.

On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production grew 0.6% in February, contrasting January’s 0.2% contraction. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production rose to 2.8% in February (January: +2.4%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 3.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel predicts that industrial output will increase 3.8% in 2018.
